Which is a dodge.

The way that little ditty is written, he is clearly trying to minimise or
whitewash what was going on. Comparing it to the US/Canada border??? Come ON!

Sometimes you don't need to meet someone in person to tell what they are
like. I can name lots of people here that I've never met in person that I'm
pretty sure I've accurately pigeonholed. I liked you *before* I met you, for
example.

I just picked one item on his list, I could have picked on several others
instead.
So that's irrelevant.
