    Email Editors —Todd Lehman
(...) Sounds cool. How does it compare to Emacs in powerfulness? (I've never used either, but demos I've seen of Emacs underwhelmed me from the complexities of Ctrl-this Ctrl-that.) I like both pico and vi but it would be great to have something (...) (26 years ago, 4-Oct-98, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

        Re: Email Editors —Fredrik Glöckner
(...) It is my opinion that nothing can possibly compare to Emacs in powerfulness. True, Emacs has a very steep learning curve, especially for novice users. But when you've properly learnt to use Emacs, you're never gonna switch to anything else. If (...) (26 years ago, 4-Oct-98, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

         Re: Email Editors —Ron Kittle
(...) Emacs is really just a lisp interpreter masquerading as an editor. :-) When I used to use unix with only a 24x80 ascii terminal, emacs was irreplaceable. With the advent of windowed interfaces, it doesn't have quite as big an advantage. Emacs (...) (26 years ago, 6-Oct-98, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

The Virtues of Emacs (was Re: Email Editors) —Tim Rueger
(...) My favorite Emacs widget is getris. That's right - play Tetris inside an Emacs window. I think that Jamie Zawinski wrote a Mandelbrot graphics generator for Emacs when colored text came along. But I disagree about Emacs not having as great an (...)      (...) It's not nearly as powerful as emacs -- it doesn't have any scripting capabilities (that I am aware of, at least). If I didn't already know the wordstare commands, I probably wouldn't use it. When I first started getting into Linux/Unix, I (...) (26 years ago, 4-Oct-98, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)
