I remain unmoved to cut off your head.

JOHN

Had I run that in a newspaper would you remain unmoved to boycott that newspaper? You may, but given the past behaviour of many of your Conservative American countrymen and women I doubt they would. There is, fortunately, one major difference and that is that the USA (no matter how much many Conservative Americans may like it to change) is a secular democracy. As such it feels no need to make national gestures in solidarity with its religious elite.

I completely believe secular democracies to be an optimal form of government (whatever their fiscal preference) but I feel it’s extremely hypocritical of people like yourself to complain about other nations which aren’t secular whilst pushing for laws in your own that seek to break down that secularity (you’ve made your support for religion-based laws known here before). Always bear in mind that many of the religious zealots ruling in the Middle East were actually voted in originally, probably by Conservative Iranians/Afghanistani/...

Tim

I don’t tink the maor difference is that you’re living in a Secular democracy.

I think the difference is that you’re living in a society that can voice their differences in a fashion that doesn’t entail the need to lop the heads off people if you disagree with what they’re saying.

If someone published anti-God editorial cartoons in an American paper (and I’m sure it’s already happened), there would be no flag burning, there’d be no gun shooting, there’d be no risk of life.

Sure there’d be protests, there’d be calls for boycotts--it might even get onto CNN, but really, what else wold there be? When civilized people have issues with something, this is what happens.

But more and more I’m convinced that we’re not dealing with civilized people. We’re dealing with brainwashed zealots--religious and/or otherwise.

To be fair, this insane response has not been echoed by American Muslims. We must account for that as well....

I was watching this on the news--note how all these idiots that are buring flags and protesting ans shooting guns are all covering their faces--tehy don’t even have the courage to face the world with what they believe and have to hide behind scarfs.

Moral cowards--the lot of them. When I don’t like something, I put my name (and/or face) on it. And I don’t threaten the lives of other people--that’s the ultimate cowardly act.

I wonder if that has something to do with not wanting their “image” caught on tape or photographed-- the whole making “graven images” thing.

If these people represent ‘Allah’ and ‘MoHo’, then their god and their prophet aren’t worthy of my spit.

LOL “MoHO”???? That’s funny-- hadn’t heard that one before:-)

JOHN

(...) I want to clarify my response--the people that are 'taking this to the streets' with the flag burning and the gun shooting and the life threatening are the uncivilized people--not Muslims or people of middle eastern countries.
