On Wed, 25 Aug 1999 21:45:18 GMT, Scott Edward Sanburn uttered the following
profundities...
Not only that, but we see reports
of kids being sentenced to death,

Um, do you have specific examples, or is this another vague generalization? We
do not kill people because they are innocent. If you are tried as an adult,
where most kids that do heinous crimes are between 12-17, you pretty much know
what is right and wrong. If you do the crime, you should also be prepared to
suffer the consequences. Every murderer killed because of his crimes, is one
less murderer out of the publics way.

UK public perception is very much anti-death penalty, due to
mistakes, where the wrong person was hanged, and one particular
instance when the punishment was too harsh.

There is no recourse. Can you, hand on your heart, be
absolutely certain, that *everyone* put to death since 1972?
was the correct one? There are always examples of guilty
people being set free due to legal technicalities, can you
be absolutely certain that technicalities, or legal
manipulations, (or political agendas), have not resulted in
someone innocent being put to death? The US legal system is
very good, very fair, but is it totally immune to mistake?

Don't usually agree with Richard much in the sphere of politics (although he's a good friend and very solid trader) but I have to weigh in on the anti-death-penalty side. I'm agin em because of the error factor, and because I want the criminals (...) (25 years ago, 29-Aug-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

(...) Nothing is perfect, but I for one am glad when a person, who has been tried, and has appealed, is never again going to blacken someone's live by killing or raping a loved one. Scott S. (25 years ago, 3-Sep-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Simon (and all Europeans and Americans of similar thinking); (...) Oh, yes, Europeans reactions to the whole Yugoslavia breakup has been stellar, hasn't it? Or is it that Europeans screamed for America to spend our own troops and money on it? Give (...) (25 years ago, 25-Aug-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
