For the better?  I dunno, but some very interesting cases recently...

http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/Southwest/02/26/offbeat.taped.defendant.ap/index.html

In which a man had his mouth duct taped shut because he was interrupting his
attorney as well as the judge.

A few more that I don't have links to--

A guy was sentenced to spend 31 nights in his doghouse in response to him
making his child sleep in the doghouse.

A man was sentenced to jail time, as well as 'unique community service' when
he was found guilty of stealing mail.  His community service entails him
standing in front of a postal outlet with a sign saying that he stole mail.

Good?  Bad?  I dunno, but it sounds to me as if the punishment is fitting
the actual crimes.
