Guns=drugs=crime=non-freedom.

Huh?  Guns are not drugs.  Drugs are only one aspect to crime.  And
crime has nothing to do with freedom.

Do you think banning guns will make criminals turn in their weapons?
No way.  There will always be some guns in the country, and there's
always going to be some smuggling.

Crime and freedom go hand-in-hand.  The only way to make a significant
reduction in crime is to get rid of freedom by giving the police
unlimited power.  Of course, a lot more people than just crimilals
will suffer.  The more freedom we have, the more free people are to
commit crime.

Drugs cause crime only because it's so damned lucrative.  Should drugs
be legal?  I don't think that's the answer either.  I think we're just
stuck with the problem.

Guns go along with any crime because they make it easier for a
criminal to stop anyone who might try to stop them.  There's nothing
in particular about drug-related crime that makes guns any more or
less likely to be used.

But even if guns were banned, drugs would still be lucrative.  And
criminals would still be able to get weapons.  It wouldn't stop
crime.  And it would be a loss of freedom.

(...) Nowhere in my postings did I *ever* imply that. I will reiterate--it is *not* because of the guns the police officers have, but because it's the law, that I obey the law. You are putting the emphasis on the wrong part of the equation. I don't (...) (22 years ago, 19-Sep-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
