The Jews may have avoided the Holocaust.  An entire nation may
not have been forced to build the pyramids.  History shows that an unarmed
society is prone to enslavement.  It matters not the technology level.

What about the native americans, were they not armed?

Here you are being a fool.  The Native Americans were lulled into a trust
with the colonies.  As time wore on, they began to depend on European
lifestlyes, including hunting with rifles.  Later as conflict grew, their
population was largely devastated by European disease.  Then they were
seperated and pitted against each other as the Europeans saw fit.  When the
time came to fight Europeans in general, the Native Americans were largely
outnumbered as well as outgunned.  They had to resort to stealing their guns
from farmers.  The bows were larely useless over large distances, which the
guns had no problem with.

So the oppressors had better weapons? Hmm, does your big bad government not
have better weapons also?

I can't believe you insinuated that the Native Americans had an equal chance
just because they had a few rifles and bows.

They were armed. It is you who think that arms can protect you against a
well trained force - I'm not so sure.

I
prefer life in a society where we are able to take the decision to live
largely without guns.

Where *you* have the decision or the government?

Not me personally. The community I live in.

Well obviously none of your neighboring communities will ever want what you
have.  And decide to take it.

You mean France? They are welcome to invade, I love their cuisine. But it is
just not going to happen. If I were a paranoid fantasist I might worry about
it. But I am not, so I don’t. How about you?

Earlier, somebody said they needed a gun for
protection from the big bad government and his neighbours. That does not
sound like freedom to me – it sounds like the exact opposite.

It is *insurance*.  Without an armed society to *assist* its government in
the making of its laws, then the skies the limit as to how far the govenment
goes.

Democracy is the limit. In the UK governments have fallen due to protests,
not armed rebellion.

Protests will not falter the U.S. govenment.

That is your problem. I suppose partly a product of the fixed term presidency?

Ironicly, I find that more
preferable to your "we will give up if they protest" type of government.

Why? Your government should serve you. If they don't, send them packing.

When will the USA have its next schoolyard massacre?

It's only been a couple of weeks since the last one... give it time.

(...) They were. And in general, one injun vs. one settler and I'd bet on the injun. The problem is that they were locally massively outnumbered. (And not organized on the larger scale, of course.)
