I stumbled upon this site a little while ago:

http://www.prospect.org/print/V11/26/bogus-c.html

Despite the *ahem* subtle political flavor of the text, it must be
recognized that it has no real value as an anti-gun-ownership argument.  I
just found some of the info interesting and something of an eye-opener.
Can anyone offer corroboration or solid refutation of the arguments about
the myths of US historical gun ownership?

     Dave!

(...) Ah, yes, Mr Colt has much to answer for! But then without the likes of him, and Messers Smith and Wesson, we'd never have been blessed with such heroes as Rueben "Rooster" Cogburn & "Dirty" Harry Callahan... ROSCO (23 years ago, 17-Dec-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
