Anthony (et al.),
I followed these posts-ALL OF THEM-and there was some really good talk on
all three sides of the fence (if you count those sittin' on the pickets-ouch!).
From a fresh perspective, I would like to say that no one in the thread
typed an offensive word...not Anthony with his original opinions through to
Jake with the reply where it all went south. That is
commendable...seriously! For a community where the only constant is the
participants mutual like of little plastic building bricks, the fact that we
all get along as well as we do normally is staggering! It takes a serious
breach of protocol, or offensive behavior to truly alienate a LUGNETer from
the group...it's rare, but it happens.
THIS IS NOT/SHOULD NOT BE ONE OF THOSE TIMES.
Anthony, take it from me (and you'll have to trust me here, I've been in
your shoes-check out the brew-ha-ha started and ended in THIS shameful
thread:http://news.lugnet.com/general/?n=30348) it is WAY too easy to get
the wrong impression of a person from a typed message, and to misinterpret
questions/differing viewpoints/criticism as ignorance of the thread/personal
attacks/flames/etc. The faceless nature of the Internet allows some people
to behave in repugnant ways...saying and doing things they would NEVER think
of saying or doing in the real world. But ask yourself...has anything like
that REALLY happened here? I don't believe it has, and I think most folks
would agree with me.
What this all boils down to is this: Anthony, go ahead, take a break from
LUGNET, think about what has happened here. The downtime might do you some
good. Go to your room...play with your toys (seriously..I mean that!). Come
back soon and find a thread that interests you and post once more. If
communnicating with folks on LUGNET is something you really, truly enjoy,
DON'T LET THIS INCIDENT STOP YOU FROM DOING SOMETHING THAT BRINGS YOU
PLEASURE. Why punish yourself with self-imposed quasi-banishment for what
amounts to a virtual nothing in the great big scheme of things?
Anyway, that's my 2¢ on this subject. I'll be happy here whether folks agree
with me or not...and isn't that what LUGNET is really all about?
Too tired to wax philosophic anymore tonight,
Matt

| Sage advice, Matt! Thanks for putting things in the proper perspective. As far as these old sets being released, I don't give a flying f*** as long as there's one Classic Space set released ;^) So, I didn't post a reply to Brad Justus's (...) (23 years ago, 9-Jun-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
