LEGO Store moving to Water Tower Place
The LEGO Store is moving its Mag Mile flagship out of the Shops at North Bridge
and down the street to Water Tower Place this summer.
The Danish toy maker, known for its colorful plastic building bricks, opened its
first Illinois store in 2000 at the North Bridge mall at 520 N. Michigan Ave. in
Chicago.
The move gives LEGO a prime location near the doll emporium American Girl Place,
a key anchor and tourist attraction for Water Tower Place at 835 N. Michigan
Ave.
The relocated LEGO store will open on June 1, 2011 in a temporary space on Water
Towers third floor before moving into its permanent home on the malls second
floor in late July, according to a spokeswoman for Chicago-based General Growth
Properties, owner of the mall.
There are more than 50 LEGO stores in the U.S., including a flagship at the Mall
of America in Bloomington, Minn. The LEGO Group is a closely-held company based
in Billund, Denmark.
LEGO officials were unavailable for comment.
