LEGO would like to maintain base in Hungary following expiration of lease

MTI: Econews
March 4th, 2011

Danish toy manufacturer LEGO would like to maintain its production base in the city of Nyíregyháza following the expiration of company unit LEGO Manufacturing Kft’s leasing contract in 2015, the regional daily Kelet-Magyarország reported.

LEGO Manufacturing Kft HR director Csaba Tóth told local media that the LEGO Group is examining the company’s alternatives following the expiration of the contract, noting that LEGO has begun investigating the possibility of purchasing land in the city.

Tóth added that LEGO management would make its final decision regarding the company’s production base in Nyiregyhaza at a later date.

LEGO Manufacturing Kft employs around 1,300 workers.

LEGO also brought the production of its “Duplo” product range to Hungary, to Sárvár in 2006. That was the first case of LEGO outsourcing the production of an entire product range.
