That's pretty cool. The Robot Society of America (RSA) listed on that page, has
hosted a couple ribbon climbing competitions, including one at the ROBOlympics
in March with a grand prize of $1000 for the fastest robot to climb the ribbon.
However, there was a significant bonus (10x) for robots that were completely
solar powered.
I built a LEGO robot, and hoped none of the solar robot would be able to make
the 15 foot climb in less than the 3 minute time limit.
Mine was able to make the climb in about 20 seconds (including the 5 second
pause), but one of the solar robots did succeed in climbing the ribbon in a
little over a minute, which, with the bonus, easily won.
