I just listened to this segment from the beginning.  Some very interesting
stuff.  Discussion centered around LEGO's recent financial performance and how
the company might go about returning to its core values.  Not much that the
average LUGNET reader doesn't already know, but some of the callers had some
interesting observations.

One of the in-studio guests was MIT's own Mitch Resnick, who summed up LEGO's
strengths very concisely as a toy that allows a child to "explore, experiment,
and express."

"Eric" from Boston said that juniorization (though he didn't use that term) was
a bad trend in the development of the brick because it reduces the possibilities
of what can be built.

"Scott" from Cambridge mentioned that, for him, some of the beauty of the LEGO
system was killed when the minifig was introduced, as this implied a certain
scale for models that he did not feel constrained by prior to that.

Other topics included how to stimulate imagination and creativity through set
design and how to present LEGO such that it would better appeal to girls.

Apparently, the program is available on the WBUR site (and presumably other NPR
affiliate station web sites as well) for those who could not tune in this
morning.

Enjoy!

- Chris.
