Ok, this should explain why I need a "dummy" book.....I searched for "perl" and
only looked at the "top results", I didn't scroll down the page looking for the
specific book I wanted. (I guess that's what happens when I spend the day
scouring for Lego. I went to that TRU that had the  silver buckets for $7.97,
but decided against them. I have quite a bit of bulk bricks sitting around that
didn't sell during my last sale.)

I did read the reviews on "Learning Perl second edition", talk about totally
opposite opinions!

A few months ago we asked everysoft if the program would work on our site that
we get free from our ISP, they said it should, if..... ( I don't remember the
if part!)

I think I'll head to the book stores tomorrow to see if any of them carry it.

Not to take ANY credit for how EveryAuction works, because someone
else wrote it (http://www.everysoft.com/auction/) but it works just
about the same as eBay (with a couple of free add-ons) and it is
*free*.

Bill certainly has the know-how to get EA up and running.  Hell, if I
can do it anyone can.

Mike, you give me hope! Although, until "Perl for Dummies" comes out, I'll
have to stick with running parts sales.

Actually, Perl for Dummies IS out. :)  (breaking the line)

/sr=2-1/002-4887795-5412458

All the reader reviews at Amazon sound positive (all 5 *'s) too.

I haven't read this (the only Dummies book I ever tried to read seemed
like it was written by and for a dummy).  I do have Learning Perl and
Programming Perl, published by O'reilly & Associates.  Here's a link
from a place I order from alot:

http://www.bookpool.com/.x/rqjr8fhf71/sm/learn_perl2

http://www.bookpool.com/.x/rqjr8f71d0/sm/prog_perl2

I am just starting Learning Perl.  I also have Perl by Example.
Couldn't quite get into it, but I was very busy at the time and never
gave it a chance.  Then, when I decided to put some effort into
learning perl, all the people I know who actually use it insisted I
buy books with animals on them.

Bookpool doesn't seem to have it, which is weird.  Here it is at
Amazon:  (breaking the line)

/sr=1-2/002-4887795-5412458

Reviews are not so good for that one, but I know 2 or 3 people who
like it.

As for EveryAuction, it really isn't *that* hard to fiddle with, and
the Everysoft forums help a great deal.  I would imagine the key for
most people is finding a place TO run it, since most people don't have
spare unix (actually since it is perl it will run on a Win32 as well)
boxes laying around with static ips and such.  Not sure how most ISPs
would handle this sort of thing.

I'm going to get it up and running ASAP on my dedicated linux server
at home, then probably see if I can get some people to test it for me.
I figure if I keep the images someplace offsite with a fast connection
the limited bandwidth I have at home shouldn't be much of a problem.
