I'm not sure if I'm in the right group; if not, please direct followups to
the correct place!
While browsing eBay this morning, I came across an item with a misleading,
if not fraudulent. It's an item currently available on the retail market
for $50, but the description says "THE VALUE IS MORE THEN $125.00." Value,
of course, is a subjective quality, but it seems clear that the seller hopes
to boost the bids on this item by exaggerating its actual worth.
I'm aware that eBay's TOS frowns on emailing bidders to inform them of
better prices elsewhere, but what does it say about mailing a seller to say,
"hey, you're over-stating the value of this common item"?
I'm not particularly interested in this auction, but I've seen the same
sort of hyperbole before.

| (...) Dave, Larry P (Lar++) has had a vertual war with Ebay over this issue...it comes up about every 6 months...and no good has come from it. What Ebay needs to do is to empower some of its costomers to be able to quash auctions that are unfair. (...) (24 years ago, 2-Apr-01, to lugnet.market.theory)
