Hmm...it must be Wednesday, weird things have happened.
I went to my "usual haunts," a KB ToyWorks, the new Kohl's nearby, my
favourite K-Mart, and my special Wal-Mart, today. The K-Mart and
Wal-Mart were unremarkable--I've combed those pretty clean--but I made
strange finds at the Kohl's and at the ToyWorks.
The Kohl's had apparently mislabeled a batch of 7140s (X-Wing Fighter);
when I got there, only one was left. They'd been mistagged at $9.99
(then 25% off that). I didn't feel right about just walking up to the
register and trying to buy, so I took it to Customer Service; they
scanned it and because it was in the right category (and because I
brought it to them with the concern) the manager told me I could have it
at that price if I wanted, and assured me that the person responsible
for pricing in Toys would be reminded of the need for vigilance when
setting her underlings to the task of pricing. ;) So I guess honesty
can sometimes work to one's benefit.
The other "weirdness" was actually a clone find--a rather shelfworn
Bloc-Tek (Coko?) Apache Helicopter (with light and sound element) at the
KB ToyWorks. It was hiding way behind various Time Cruisers boxes and
the like; it arrived in 1996, and the copyright date on it is 1991.
It's a strange beast, to say the least, (rhyme unintended) and much
nicer IMHO than any of the other LEGO-clone attack helicopters out
there. Strange. They also had Misty Mountain Time Lab--$64.99, and
missing all but one of its polybags. I passed on that one, even after
being offered a big $5 discount (I offered to buy what *remained* for
$5, but no dice).
Strange day, indeed.
best
Lindsay
