The Ultimate First Train Set: the 65537 My Own Train Classic Freight Train!

Here is the ultimate train kit! A very rare official set that you will be hard pressed to find anywhere else! We repeat, this is not a homemade BrickBros bundle like most of our other Train sets, this is an official set! In this set you get some awesome stuff:
  • - Large Blue Steam Engine & Tender (1 set)
  • - 10017 Hopper Wagon (1 set)
  • - 10013 Open Frieght Wagon (1 set)
  • - 10153 Train Motor (1 set)
  • - 4548 Speed Regulator (1 set)
  • - 4515 8 Straight Rails (1 set)
  • - 4520 8 Curved Rails (2 sets)
That is correct, everything you need is there! And check out that price! The package is worth $165.99 at retail price and you are getting it all for only $79.99, just under 50% off! We have extreamly limited quantities of this item, so get it while you can at this awesome price!

That is a KILLER price on a complete train set. $80 is MSRP even! Shoot, most of the TRU clearance train sets in the past haven’t been as good a value. I am pretty darned excited about getting me one of these. How about you all?

Yes, I own the web site, but I posted this here at LUGNET out of excitement. I have known about this new set for three weeks but haven’t been allowed to say anything. As far as I know, only independant stores will be allowed to order this. This should rule out even S@H. Right now, my store is the only one with it for sale online. It will ship on or around October 15th.

Interesting set. I’m curious about the “only independent stores will be allowed to order this” comment. Anyone have any guesses if LEGO Train Clubs might be able to order some to sell at shows? At the $80 price point, that’s almost in the ‘impulse purchase’ range for the typical train show attendee!

And I’m sure we wouldn’t use any of them just for parts... No, we’d never do that... ;-)

This set is basically a bundling of existing SAH exclusive train products, much like the Target specials from last year were. They are targeted towards small toy dealers and hobby shops.

These products should be appearing in local small toy retails shortly. I believe this is North America only at this time, as it was developed within the North American marketing group. That’s not to say that the product won’t make it’s way to Europe or other parts of the world at some point. But like the El Al plane, or the Nesquik bunny in the UK, some products are specifically targeted to a certain market.

As far as train clubs getting these sets to sell, I would suggest that you work with local toy and hobby shops to work out an arrangement. As has been discussed at great length in the past, there is a great many factors that go into setting up and maintaining a sales relationship with a store or other entity. We don’t currently have any mechanism in place to sell directly to train clubs.

That said, I think there is a unique opportunity here. Now that trains are being sold to and in small toy shops and hobby shops, I’d encourage clubs to talk to local shops in their area to a) convince them to pick up the trains products, and b) work with them on support for your club at events. I can envision a local store being willing to trade product for publicity, for instance. Or they may be more willing than a local large retailer to have a display or a show on-site.

Hope this helps!
Jake

(...) If an individual Lego fan wished to introduce products such as these to small toy dealers and hoby shops, how would one go about doing that?? How can someone get in contact with the small retailer program? Rather than just visiting my local (...) (20 years ago, 7-Sep-04, to lugnet.market.shopping, FTX)
