Lego 5223 at LIC Downtown Disney?

Hello all,
I was preparing to buy a few 5223 Wind up motor kits for use in my CAD class,
so I made my annual trek to Downtown Disney (they have had TONS of them there
for months)... I go in and they've totally reorganized the Technic/Mindstorms
area - no 5223s.
I asked one of the workers what happened to them, and he said since Lego was
discontinuing them, they had a blowout sale - $1 each, until they were all
gone. !!!
Now I'm not sure if he was pulling my leg or not (wouldn't it be cheaper to
send them back to Lego? The kit lists for $10, that's 90% off!). Did anyone see
this sale or buy some of these kits?
