Unfortunately I think the Jambalaya concept has turned out to not be all
that practical. It really started as a way for Todd Lehman to get rid of a
bunch of parts he considered in too poor condition to be worth trying to
sell. We came up with the Jambalaya mechanism to try and distribute the
parts and goodwill to a wider audience that Todd could personally do. The
problem I see with the concept is that in order to be worth participating,
you have to be able to increase valuation of your collection by $5-10 for
you to feel good. The problem is how to do that without decreasing the value
of the box contents. Also, with the advent of BrickLink (and probably also
the brick cons which allow wider in person sharing), I think it has become
easier to dispose of unwanted parts, raising people's personal valuations of
their unwanted parts and making it really hard to justify participating in a
Jambalaya box.
