They were intended for a child size table top, with four plates arranged in a
square. I have plates for both DUPLO and LEGO sized studs, separate and with
plates glued to either side of a plywood "table top".
They did a very good job of cutting - straight, smooth, and exactly on a
"half-stud" distance. The center picture at the link I gave shows how smoothly
they join. The 1x and 2x bricks are snapped on to the plates across a plate
boundary - no daylight showing at all, no stress or warping.
Also, to answer some questions I have received via email, they measure 13 and
13/16ths inches square, and weigh ~6.5 ounces each.
