Hi All:

I would like to apologize if this comes out of left field, as I'm not exactly a
LUGNet regular (shame on me), and even I usually get paranoid about this sort
of post.  I don't mean for it to come off as spam, if that's how you interpret
it.  But here's the deal:

I'm over the hill (in Modesto) and I've marveled at some of the large sets that
have been built in collective fashion or by individuals in the LUGs.  I,
personally, have been a Lego geek for as long as I can remember, but haven't
really found a lot of people with the same level of passion I have (guess I
live in the wrong neighborhood).  This is why I am here.

A few years ago, I shot an animated short film using only Legos, and it
garnered some cult following.  With a few years of meditation, changes in
technology, and advances in Lego sets, we have decided to redo the project, but
on a much more grandiose scale.  We are shooting again on 16mm film (we've got
our sights set high) and no -- it's not a 'Rick and Steve' type film.
Everything is stop-motion.  Nothing is digital.  And it's coming along fairly
well.

Here's why I'm posting:  Basically, we've got most of the sets we need, though
there are three in particular that would make the whole project look that much
more 'killer.'  We simply don't have enough bricks to build them all, as most
of the bricks are relegated to models that have to stay together throughout the
entire production process 'just in case'.  Plus, I'm a better animator and SFX
guy than I am an architect.

From the talent I've seen, I was just wondering if there might be anyone here
(especially in the SF/BayLUG area) who might be interested in working on this
project.  We're somewhat paranoid about giving out too much info about the
project, but we are willing to talk to people who are seriously interested.
Basically, we need somebody to get together with a few other LUG people he/she
knows and build a good sized set from some drawings or screen captures that we
give you (artistic license is encouraged).  Everything is set to the scale of
minifigs.  The largest set (a specific city street) could potentially end up
about 3' across.  We could come to you (over the hill) with our gear and
characters and lights and shoot our sequences, or we can arrange to transport
it over the hill to us, shoot it, and then bring it back.  Once in production,
each set would only be needed for probably a weekend's time (perhaps only a
day).

Unfortunately (and this is the part that sucks), we don't really have a budget.
We could probably swing buying food and paying for gas if you have to travel,
but screen credit, notoriety, and seeing your set on a 30' high screen would
probably be the payoffs.  You'd also get huge spotlights on the website and we
could hook you up with festival tickets (if we get so lucky).

And, just in case this is a question, yeah it's just me and two people shooting
on weekends in a garage -- we're not a studio.  But we do know what we're doing
and have had some festival successes.

Without going into too much detail, that's it.  If you have a vague interest,
please email me or post here and I can take you into my confidence and tell you
a bit more.  (I'll provide some weblinks and a bit more description).  We're
basically doing this because we're weekend guerilla film geeks who love Legos
and see a great opportunity for a fun project.  We're not out to rip anybody
off (if that's an issue).  Thanks for your time and hopefully we'll be able to
garner some interest.
