The note below, from a LEGO Press Release, is darkly significant;
How few folks LEGO really employs (compared to the markup they
make selling colored ABS plastic).
Will it really be cheaper to mold parts outside of North America
and import it all here?
How much they are loosing this year (think about amusement park,
and signing up partners like Disney (Mikey Mouse), LucasFilm
(Starwars), and the Winnie-the-Pooh and other themes, plus the
way Mindstorms computer-controlled kits took off beyond their
wildest expectations).
Reduced hours for the folks that get products to people...
While $65 million US seems HUGE, compared to the salaries of the
folks that will be layed off, I'm wondering what percentage of
annual revenue that really is, and which groups/divisions are
responsible for the loss...since the note is coming from the
Americas division, and only talks about changes to that division.
Get 'em while you can! ;-)
