Subject: RE: For the history books -- LUG & LTC dates of formation

Hi Todd,

There are some who might say that BayLug started on June 10,
1996 in Mountain View, as shown at:
http://baylug.org/russellc/96legofest/

But things really reached sustainable critical mass about 2
years latter, for the Lego 25th Anniversary Tour visit to SF.
Thus, I would say that BayLUG started, or had its first
meeting, on 10 October 1998 around the Lego 25th Anniversary
Tour visit to SF. Or in your date format: 1998-09-10

There are tons of photos online of the meeting and creations
in a SFPD meeting room next to Golden Gate Park before the
Truck tour by Russell Clark at:
http://baylug.org/russellc/98legofest/ and a few more by Tom
Stangl at: http://people.netscape.com/toms/RTL/index.html
There are also many of the truck visit itself.

BAYLTC, the Bay Area Lego Train Club, a "splinter group" of
the former, was formed 12 March 2000 (2000-03-12) at the
quarterly meeting of BAYLUG.

Comments from other BayLUG Members?

Mark

Subject: For the history books -- LUG & LTC dates of formation

I am starting a list of local users group and clubs.  I want
it to be as
complete as possible and for the history books (and, aw heck,
for charts and
graphs someday) I'd like to include the official dates of
formation of each
group/club.

As a first approximation, I checked in the newsgroups for the
first mention
(i.e., the earliest reference) to each name.  This pegs the
order of formation
pretty solidly, I think, and in some cases pegs the official
formation dates
fairly closely, but for a couple of the more established
groups (PNLTC for
example), the dates are probably off significantly.

Date format is yyyy/mm/dd:

1998-09-29  PNLTC: Pacific Northwest LEGO Train Club (U.S.A.)
1998-11-14  NGLTC: North Georgia LEGO Train Club (U.S.A.)

I'm also starting a little webpage for this list, so that I

info comes in:

TIA for any info you can provide!
