S.F. Bay Area Lego Users Group
and
S.F. Bay Area Lego Train Club

Welcome You to Our
Quarterly Meeting and Show
Fukaya Room, Fremont Library

'Bet you didn't know Lego  made toy trains!

About BAYLUG and BAYLTC
BAYLUG and BAYLTC are non-profit, independent groups of LEGO enthusiasts of
all ages. BAYLUG formed in 1998 from Rec.Toys.LEGO and LUGNET newsgroup
participants. BAYLTC formed this year. BAYLUG and/or BAYLTC meet
approximately quarterly to display, discuss and swap items and ideas of
interest to members and the public. Visit the BAYLUG & BAYLTC website:
http://www.baylug.org/.

BAYLUG and BAYLTC strive to:
Provide an environment for Lego and Lego train enthusiasts of all ages to
meet and share.
Provide an opportunity to display, operate and trade Lego, Lego trains and
ideas.
Promote Lego and Lego train building as a hobby in the SF Bay Area. Oh yah,
and HAVE FUN!!!

BAYLUG "Theme" Exhibits:
Lego evolved a number of "themes" over the years. First was "basic", just
bricks, plates, wheels, etc. The early themes, still very popular are
"Town", (buildings, police, fire, race, flight, and variants) and "Space".
Others, like Pirates, seem to fluxuate in popularity or even be
discontinued,  like Islanders, as time goes on. BAYLUG members are active to
varying degrees in most major themes, and make up their own as well.
Particularly popular in the group are many flavors of Space and Trains,
followed by Town. A variety of themes are exhibited; feel free to discuss
any of them.

Lego Trains and BAYLTC Exhibits:
LEGO has produced trains since 1965, divided into groups based on voltage.
4.5V battery and 12VDC electric trains were available through 1992 when the
9V "age" began. Lego train sets are sold for the holidays, or as components
all year at Lego Shop-at-Home. Lego trains are toys, not models. They are
similar to the classic toy trains of the early 20th century in that they
cannot, and are not intended to, be scale replicas of prototype equipment.
They are however a significant challenge to build and operate, and involve a
greater degree of scratch building than most commercial model railroad kits.
What you see are not "out-of-the-box" Lego train sets, only the track and
motors are. EVERYTHING else was CUSTOM DESIGNED AND BUILT by BAYLTC members,
their friends and families from standard Lego bricks WITHOUT ANY
INSTRUCTIONS. If you think its easy, join us and try it!

Other excellent Lego train-related online resources are newsgroups like
lugnet.trains@lugent.com,  as well as many fine websites:

http://www.pnltc.org/, http://www.miltontrainworks.com, among others.

BAYLUG and BAYLTC are NOT sponsored or endorsed by the LEGO companies, or
the official LEGO homepage, www.lego.com, and vice-versa.  LEGO® is a

or endorse BAYLUG, BAYLTC, their activities or websites. It is the goal of
BAYLUG and BAYLTC to follow the LEGO Group's guidelines found on the

reach Lego Shop at Home at: 1-800-835-4386, just ask and they will send you
a free catalog. Thanks, Enjoy the show! Copyright '00 Mark D. Benz
