Thanks. Over the past 2 days, my Lego WTC page
(http://www.brickapple.com/wtc) has gotten a hundred times the traffic it
normally gets!
Yes, my friend knocked over my World Trade Center a few months ago, not long
after the first tower was complete. (I now accuse her of practicing
voo-doo.) My original plan was to build both towers, the other 5 smaller
buildings, the underground mall, subway lines, etc.
My tower was about 6 feet tall, and stood on a 32x32 stud baseplate. It
separated in sections to make it easier to move, and swung open on hinges.
Many of the floors were in and had offices and elevators and things. It
took 10 months to aquire all the pieces and build the first tower, mainly
because I used tons and tons of white 1x1 and 1x2 bricks to form the
vertical "striped" facade.
I've looked, but I haven't found anyone else who has built the WTC out of
Lego. Actually, I got email once from someone who had made all of Manhattan
in microfig scale! His WTC towers were 4x4 studs or so. But no one else.
I fully plan on rebuilding the whole complex, even though the real one has
been destroyed.
If you are interested in building one, there are nice WTC photos, plans, and
comments from the Architect at www.greatbuildings.com. I only wish I'd
taken more pictures in person. :(
