March 26, 2002 LEGO Netherland seeks help from private LEGO club
The Dutch LEGO club "De Bouwsteen" (The Building Brick) has 500 adult
members whose common interest is building and collecting LEGO products. The
club has previously assisted LEGO Benelux by constructing a range of LEGO
mosaics and figures. The latest joint venture was between LEGO Netherland
and "De Bouwsteen" in connection with LEGO WORLD 2001 in the Dutch city of
Zwolle in October last year. The four-day event was the biggest single
activity ever organised between a private LEGO club and the LEGO Company -
with "De Bouwsteen" providing a team of 80 volunteers in the large hall in
which the event took place.
The LEGO hall - in addition to containing building competitions and a
historical stand - also held stands with the new LEGO products, with
opportunities to examine, test and play with the products. Visitors were
able to lie on cushions and watch the latest Bionicle films screened on the
ceiling, build and decorate Scala houses, construct racers, have MINDSTORMS
demonstrated by a LEGO employee, see exhibitions of LEGO figures, and try
building some themselves. The special LEGO hall was laid out in an
attractive, functional manner, and there was great interest in the whole
LEGO event.
Roy Cordes, In-store & Events Manager, LEGO Benelux, says: "Members of 'De
Bouwsteen' were a great help at LEGO WORLD 2001, and the activities of our
fans lend support and assistance to the LEGO Company."
Bouwsteen Member Poul Wolters was very pleased with the success of LEGO
WORLD 2001: "Membership of 'De Bouwsteen' has increased by 325 during the
past year. There was a particularly encouraging rise after LEGO WORLD 2001,
and the club aims to have 1000 members within the next two years." That's a
great ambition - and has lots of potential for the LEGO Company.
