Hi guys,

The red beams is the main problem: he hasn’t got enough of them. So he
placed an other at S@H but they are (temporary) out of the assortment.

I’ve already seen the undercarriage: gigantic! Tomorrow I will make some
pictures of it. He also started to build the superstructure. The radius will
be very big! For the ballast truck he’ll use the 24x43 weels. About the
height: in the beginning not too high. It better to start with a main beam
of approx. 2.5 metres. Than test it out and see how many pieces are left ….

I will put some images of the LTM1400 on the net soon. This crane was on
scale 1:15, together with a ballast truck. A very huge model!

Hmm, OK, I now someone who also is trying to build a large crawler crane. He
has chosen for the DEMAG CC12600 of the Van Seumeren company, scale 1:24!!

Which, from memory, in its maximum boom configuration would give a scaled
height of over eight metres! Could be *very* interesting indeed!

Close enough! I think the maximum boom height (combined with jib) is around
198 meters. This scales to 8.3m, or 27.1 ft, in 1:24.

However, there are many different boom configurations and they don't
necessarily have to be as tall. But if he did build it that tall, it would
blow my mind.

BTW, the dimensions of the crawlers and the body:
(the real thing / a 1:24 model)

Crawler Length = 16.8m / 700mm, 27.6"
Body Length = 22m / 917mm, 36.1" (tip of cralwers to back of ballast)
Total Width = 14.6m / 608mm, 24.0"

Now THAT's impressive! This guy must own 100kg of red Technic beams.

TJ
