I shot myself in the foot with this before =) Told a bunch of guys where to
find old sets and when i went back a few days after they were all gone.
Anyways... you can find older sets but usually NOT at the best prices [thats
why they are still availble].
Overall the best place seems to be Zellars, they have stuff often on clearance
including older sets. I picked up some misc. technic stuff at 40-50% off...
the boxes are in rough shape but all I want was the pieces. I found old Fright
Nights, Exploriens, UFO, etc at various Zellars in the Toronto area.
The Bay stores tend to have some older sets..but not that old... I went to one
Bay and they had almost every western set..and some small priate items. But it
was at full retail.
The Eatons Center doesn't yield too much. Toys Toys Toys marks up their stock
big time.... they got a boatload of Fort Legorados for 130$ CDN [yuck].. but
I did find a 6 year old technic set [8857] there. Toys Toys Toys tend to
sometimes carry sets the big stores don't, like the model team sets. [last
time I visited there all they had was Red Fury]
Toys R Us in toronto area is just plain wierd... they seem to put clearance
sets out one at a time... I picked up the Cyberslam spider slayer [? the one
with the 9v motor] for well over half off. Next week there was another one
there just like it for the same price... then again the shelfs were fully
stocked with 2000 merchandise so I should ask the manager if they keep
clearance stuff in the back room somewhere.
Anyways as with any city.. you are more likely to find stock in less travelled
less affluent areas [ie. the smaller malls or the plazas with just a few
stores in them]. You can't find squat in the downtown core usually but travel
outwards to less accessable areas [away from subways/highways] and you can
usually hit a goldmine.
Hope this helps,
Kurt
PS - let me know what you find =). I'm doing some lego hunting today.. i'll
post if I find anything of interest.

I'm looking for Castle (new and old), pirates, western (...) (25 years ago, 17-Feb-00, to lugnet.loc.ca.on.tor)
