Hi Jennifer!
This is weird - that is exactly where my mum's family is from. They moved
from the "city" of Johnville to the "city" of Bath in the 60s (city - that's
funny!).
Anyway, The St. John river runs from the far Northwest corner of the
province to the city of Saint John on the Bay of Fundy. If you start in
Saint John (they spell out the whole word "Saint" to distinguish it from St.
Johns), and head upstream/North, it is about 100km to Fredericton. If you
keep going - it's easy, just follow the TCH up the river - it is about 150km
from Fredericton to Florenceville (my current home!).
Now, we're just over halfway up the province, very close (15 minute drive)
to the Western border with Maine. You have to get off the highway in
Florenceville and stay on the East side of the river. It is about a 10
minute drive North/upstream on Route 105 from Florenceville to Bath (that's
where I buy my groceries!). To get to Johnville, you have to take the road
that goes East from Bath for about 10 minutes. I haven't been to Johnville
in many years, since I can find everything I need in the
Florenceville/Bristol/Bath greater metro area.
Florenceville is the home of McCain Foods - yes, the same McCains that my
email address is named after. There are about 700 people here. I'm not so
sure about the populations of Bath or Johnville. Bath is more than 100 and
less than 1000, and Johnville is smaller than Bath. Bath is a lovely village.
If you want to know anything else about the area, just shout.
