Gary as you attended both days of the last trainshow could you please write a report for the show.

Okay, here’s my recollection of events.

Bugs meeting number two-pi-over-three (or whatever) - Sunday August 3 2003

This time the meet was at Kerry’s, and she had unilaterally declared the theme to be ‘Ekka’, a very timely idea, as well as organising prizes (yay!) from Ozbricks. Kudos to both Kerry and the Ozbricks team for that.

Attending was (from memory, get Aaron to add you to the list if I’ve forgotten you) Kerry, Michael, Gary & Callum, Aaron, Tara, Ken, Allister & Junior, Jeremy, and, and... I know there was more of you, but the names elude me - my mind is overrun with mathematical formulae :)

Kerry had the bigger Star Wars ships and the Darth Maul Bust on display, and we all discussed the value and general coolness of such sets, as well as the well-documented fragility of the Stott-Despoja. Ain’t it the truth?

MOCs at the meet were: *My Ekka Clown Heads, the caravel La Empresa and a small model that arrived as a spaceship, but became a submarine by popular acclamation;
  • facades - The Breakfast Creek Hotel being latest in the lineup;

  • Grain Silo, with working ‘pour-out-into-the-hoppers’ action;

  • fire engines (mass shock!);

  • ludicrous number of Space creations - including mecha, transformers, Spiffcraft and Pre-Classic Space Era vehicles;

  • and, (memory shorts out again) there were more Ekka related ones, stalls, ferris wheels etc, but I don’t remember who’s they were. There was also a train layout, which may have featured things which i missed because trains is really boring :)
After much admiration of models was done, voting for the prize-giving was underway. In a campaign marred by violence and intimidation, my clown heads won the ‘Ekka-themed MOC’ competition. Yayyyyyy :)

From memory, the Quinlan household cleaned up most of the rest of the prize draw...

Then it was down to the ritual S@H ordering. I wasn’t much in this, but there was certainly much splurging (isn’t there always?)

Looking forward to the next, as always. I wonder if we could all fit in my two-bedroom unit... :)

Michael
