Well actually he was the state manager apparently.

Talked about the 2002 stuff, Releases start in Feb/March.More in April/July.
Said there was Star Wars to be released in conjunction with Episode 3.

Talked about the Yoda sculpture. $180 was the price. Might be a good parts
set, depending on the piece count.. He seemed really impressed with it..

Talked about the new soccer sets. The new soccer field will RRP at $99
Said it was a much bigger set, more players, more room on the field again
seemed impressed with it.

Current field set would suit ants, I combined multiple fields to make a decent
sized pitch, maybe others did as well.

BAD NEWS to me anyway :-( .... Looks like Life on Mars is deleted. Didn't
sell well enough apparently..

Guessed that one, too many new colours, too many quasi-Techno specialised bits.
I liked LoM personally. At half-price those scorpions still will not move.

Harry Potter is selling through the roof, He said selling out before
Christmas is distinct possibility.

Nice sets, nice pieces and a movie tie-in, what more could one want.

Of course Bionicle is selling like hot cakes...

Maybe not as well as planned, some price-cutting happening to keep the
momentum going, plus copper give-aways.

He hadn't heard of LugNet :-( Told him about it.
Was very suprised when i told him that we buy multiple copies of a single
set.
His words were " So thats were they all go"

Outrageous retail behaviour.

Said that when KMART had the blue tubs on sale they sold 40,000
units...Australia Wide...
Yes Forty Thousand units... they bought in a total of 55,000 units.
He did say they would be on special at $39.99 again shortly. to clear the
leftovers

Leftovers....so the demise is on the horizon.

He also said that Kmart will have the UCS Tiefighter for $99 shortly. Sounds
REAL GOOD..Layby some of those methinks...

At least Kmart sets will be newish, wonder what TRU will do with their
shop-worn sets.

Lastly he also said that LEGO may be doing one of there show things in
Rocky... Now that would be cool............. Well to me anyway.... :-)

(...) Quick plug for set 7316 -- I really enjoyed this model. Some cool pieces, and nice modularity -- <$40 it really lends itself to multiples. Not enough classic bricks of course, but there must be some cool stuff to do with all those tan click (...) (23 years ago, 7-Nov-01, to lugnet.loc.au)
