BTW, what are the chances of getting something like the flu from importing
Lego and stuff

Most 'flu type things are airborne. One sick person breathes out, and a
nearby healthy person breathes it in, so you really have to be sharing the
air with a sick person. Most of these things aren't likely to survive
outside the human body for the periods of time needed to import something
through the post. You are probably more at risk buying locally from a sick
friend or  a sick sales assistant.

Washing is more useful to prevent diseases that might be passed by people
sucking on Lego or contaminating it by not having washed their hands after
going to the toilet, handling raw meat etc. Again, many of these things
won't survive the international postal journey anyway. The sets that might
be more at risk are locally-obtained ones used by or intended for small
children (whose hygiene is not always the best).

Basically, if something could survive the postal journey, that same disease
could equally well be transmitted by library books or rented videos locally,
just to put it in perspective.
