Actually,  it was probably the "bell jars" that did it:  to a male AFOL
conditioned by years of exposure to minifig "flesh" tones,  they would look
quite,  um,  shall we say?,  "attention-getting".

The "banana peels" are merely an artistic device for drawing the eye to
their point of intersection...
