My nephew was 3 years 4 months when I gave him the Intelli-train set. At
that stage he was interested that the train stopped, reversed etc and seemed
to understand that the coloured lozenges (for want of a better name) caused
these behaviours. However, he did not play with the lozenges or move them to
other parts of the track -- he was entertained by them but did not engage
with them. However, at his 4th birthday, he was still needing assistance to
build the whole track but was actively placing the lozenges and definitely
knew which ones caused which behaviours.
