Re: Custom Built LEGO Sets in 2002

(...) If LEGO offers a free program that does LEGO/CAD, It would probably have to run locally and store the model design locally. The only thing that would actually have to be transmitted to LEGO is the parts list. So the program would have a (...) (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct, lugnet.general)

  Re: GoB Designs

(...) Thank you very much for your input! This topic is being discussed in detail, and we're considering all options. Some members have already discussed plans to do so, some are not sure about it. It's too early to evaluate what the effect of TLC (...) (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)

Re: LEGO Company Welcomes Adult LEGO Enthusiasts

(...) Well said! With the introduction of the Mickey Mouse sets, some Fabuland elements which had been near impossible to find much less afford became both available and affordable. It is a glorious feeling to have some elements that I thought I (...) (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)

Re: Custom Built LEGO Sets in 2002

(...) Ding! This is why people's fears at giving LEGO the ability to market their models are bunk. If you figure out what pieces you need, you can create instructions for an ugly "alternate model", and build the real model when you get the parts. (...)   Custom Built LEGO Sets in 2002

I am cautiously optomistic about this entire revelation, but I am skeptical about whether or not they will have an extensive part/color inventory for us to use. If so, here is a scenario that I would consider: ---...--- For those of you who have (...) (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct, lugnet.general)

Re: Desirable parts (was Re: LEGO Company Welcomes Adult LEGO Enthusiasts)

(...) Ah finally a sub thread that makes some sense. Both Tom and Gary speak wise words. I will agree that as Bulk parts become available I will almost definitely cut back on the number of sets I buy but I will more then offset that with my bulk (...)   Massive Thought...

I have the UNICEF stuff up on my page, at: (URL) the bottom blurb...what does it say? 3000 sets made or so!. This holds promise, that small runs are _possible_, even if not _likely_. James Powell (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)

Welcome Tomas! Thanks for posting. It is gratifying to hear every once in a while that someone in LD really is listening in (at least in this group). -John (...) (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)

Re: LEGO Company Welcomes Adult LEGO Enthusiasts

Hello LUGNET, I wanted to let you all know that LEGO Direct is paying attention! There are a lot of discussions and meetings going on inside TLC right now about the issues mentioned in this thread. Hopefully we'll be able to post here sometime soon (...) (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct) !!

Re: Desirable parts (was Re: LEGO Company Welcomes Adult LEGO Enthusiasts)

I agree with Tom, I doubt there is anyone with a larger inventory of rare LEGO parts than I have. Yet I am giddy with anticipation about getting more parts that are considered rare. Case in point: sloped bricks --- I have 140 regular sloped 2x2 blue (...) (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)

(...) You know, I was curious about this. So I emailed my friend Neil-- (as an aside here, Dave knows Neil, but to bring the rest of you up to date: I went to college with Neil, and we still play RPGs and wargames together on a regular basis.   Re: LEGO Company Welcomes Adult LEGO Enthusiasts

(...) If you do buy sets purely to build with, why does the eBay market getting hurt make you sad? I buy sets only to build with, and hurting the eBay market makes me neither happy nor sad. The only thing I see in it is that I can finally buy sets (...) (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)

Re: LEGO Company Welcomes Adult LEGO Enthusiasts

(...) So? If you "prize" these things for the reason I do, that you LOVE them, how could it be a bad thing to have them become available again? I value pitchforks pretty darn highly. I love the part and I wish I could have 10,000 of them. But it (...) (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)

Re: Wondering about creation rights (Re: LEGO Company Welcomes Adult LEGO Enthusiasts)

(...) This amount is likely to be quite miniscule. Something on the order of less than $1 per copy of the set. (In the recording industry, artists usually get a dollar or two per album sold. And that is with the amount being written in a contract.) (...) (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)

Re: LEGO Company Welcomes Adult LEGO Enthusiasts

(...) You mistake the idea of appreciation with patronage -- and those are NOT the same thing at all. Did Michaelangelo serve as patron to Leonardo? An overblown example, but you get the point... -- Richard (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)

Re: LEGO Company Welcomes Adult LEGO Enthusiasts

(...) You "prize" the wrong thing, in my view. You prize the collectability of the thing, or the elitism of owning the thing, and not the thing itself. That seems pretty whacky to me, considering we are talking about plastic toys! -- Richard (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)

  GoB Designs

I have been follwoing the discussion about TLG's announcement regarding "design your own" set and the sub-discussion about GoB designs and the possibility of people copying them. This is a suggestion to the GoB designers. I think that your group (...) (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)
