Dear All,
First I would like to say thanks to the LUGNET owners for creating a new
newsgroup here on LUGNET for BrickLink announcements. I'm happy to announce
cooperation with LUGNET regarding Set inventories. All newly submitted set
inventories to the BrickLink Set Inventory System will be auto-posted to the
lugnet.db.inv newsgroup once they are approved on BrickLink for anyone to
use should they wish so. All existing BrickLink Set inventories will also
be submitted to lugnet.db.inv by the LUGNET server shortly. The following
is a brief overview how to submit set inventories inventories in BrickLink
format:
1) Check which sets have not yet been inventoried on BrickLink by visiting
the following page: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogInv.asp (Sets not yet
inventoried column). Click on the categories to view the sets not yet
inventoried.
2) Check if the set you are about to inventory already has information on
which minifigs that set contains by viewing a catalog detail page for that
set. For example: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=4558-1 shows
in the top-right portion of the white area of that page that the set
contains 11 minifigs. Click on the link to view which minifigs come in that
set. BrickLink has functionality to handle partial set inventories
containing info on which minifigs come in a set. Information on which whole
minifigs appear in which sets is already available for 1,581 sets with 2,337
sets marked as "does not contain minifigs" and 1,322 sets undetermined. If
the set already has minifigs, you do not need to and should not enter the
minifigs or the parts that the minifigs consist of into that set inventory
because that information is already available.
3) Reserve the set - The "Upload Set Inventory" page:
http://www.bricklink.com/bbsiXML.asp has capability to reserve a set;
reserve expires after 3 days if the set has not yet been inventoried by
then. During the time that a set is reserved, noone else can upload an
inventory for that set or put a reserve on it. You can optionally delete
the reserve on that set if you put a reserve on a set and changed your mind
about inventorying it.
4) Learn the standards on how to inventory a set in BrickLink format by
reading the following help topics:
http://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?topicID=38. For example sets can contain
other sets, sets can contain minifigs, sets and minifigs can contain parts
and parts assemblies can contain other parts. This make a tree-like view of
the set inventory.
5) Inventory the set and upload into BrickLink. There are 3 ways you can
inventory a set in BrickLink format. Visit this page for more info:
http://www.bricklink.com/bbsiXML.asp. One is a manual web interface, one is
an XML upload and the third is to use BrikTrak (offline software located at
http://www.briktrak.com which already has the BrickLink catalog and color
table) to easily create BrickLink inventories offline and then upload them
into BrickLink. BrikTrak also has a tutorial on how to create inventories
in BrickLink format which is located here:
http://www.briktrak.com/InfoPages/CreatingBricklinkInventories.asp
6) Wait for the set to be approved. You can view a list of all inventories
you submitted to BrickLink while they are in pending status on the bottom of
the following page: http://www.bricklink.com/bbsiXML.asp and optionally
delete them and resubmit them if they contain excessive errors. The
inventory of that set is available once a BrickLink inventories
administrator approves the inventory.
7) Automatic LUGNET posting - The LUGNET server will periodically check any
new inventories on BrickLink and auto-post them into the lugnet.db.inv
newsgroup. I'm not yet sure when this will be available and how often the
LUGNET server will be checking the newly submitted inventories.
8) Corrections -In case you find any errors in the inventories, please post
corrections to the Inventories Requests group at BrickLink located at the
following URL: http://www.bricklink.com/messageList.asp?ID=28. All posts to
that group have a status of Open and an Inventories Administrator can then
change the status to Completed or Discarded. We have a page showing all
requests not yet completed as well.
Thanks,
Dan Jezek
