Hello,

Does anyone know if each step of the spiral stairs found in a few HP sets
can be stacked directly upon each other without forming the staircase?

Yup. You can just stack 'em right on top of one another in a straight column
if desired.

How solid would it be?

Not at all. They stack loosely, and don't have any sort of locking mechanism
at all, really (ew). If you lifted up an HP set with the stairs up, and
turned it sideways, all the steps would probably fall in line. The only
"lock-in-place" part to the stairs is the fact that one stair cant swing
more than X-degrees away from the stair beneath it.

Would there be any space between each step?

Vertical space? Not much. Probably about as much as there is visible on the
"lip" of standard tiles.

I have thoughts of making columns for a building using these with the carved
round area facing outward and 'hiding' the step area in the building.

Will this work?

It should. You may want to "lock" the free-swinging steps that would be
inside the building so they don't sway around...

How thick is each step? 2 plates?

That sounds about right-- definitely more than 1 plate, but not quite 3, I
don't think. Pretty sure it was 2 plates thick...

Great! Thanks for your time and help.

Best,
