Ever since LEGO researcher Jim Hughes (Cincinnati) first discovered that the
first LEGO that was sold in Iceland in the 1950s (starting in 1955) was under a
different name... "SIBS Kubbars"... I've been looking for one of these unique
boxes.
Well 6 years later I finally found an image of one of these very rare boxes
(thanks Richard Aud!). Back in the 1950s Iceland only had 150,000 residents, so
the number of these sets sold there was very limited.
When LEGO came to Iceland, a Tuberculosis Clinic by the name of Reykjalundur had
the sanitarium patients assembling LEGO sets as therapy. Well TLG sent them the
old Automatic Binding Bricks (1949-56) parts to build the sets in Iceland.
On the box tops the word LEGO did not appear until 1960. From 1955-59 the sets
had the name SIBS Kubbar...

Enjoy!
