In all my years I had never seen an image of the entire LEGO owning Christiansen
family.  Well that changed, when a Dutch friend found an article from 1962 in a
German QUICK magazine.

The article mentions that Godtfred Kirk Christiansen (son of LEGO founder Ole
Kirk Christiansen, d. 1958) became a millionaire because of his "LEGO System of
Play" concept that he formulated from a 1954 on a Ferry boat from England, when
an English toy retailer complained that toys didn't have enough versatility any
more.

Anyway, this image is of all 5 members of the family... from left to right...
mother Edith, 14 year old son Kjeld, father Godtfred, 10 year old daughter
Hanne, and 16 year old daughter Gunhild.

Only Edith (she must be at least in her upper 80s today), Kjeld and Gunhild (who
own the TLG parent company, and holder of the LEGO patents... Kirkbi/AG) still
survive today.  Godtfred passed away in 1995 at age 74, and Hanne died in a
tragic 1969 auto accident at age 18.

This image and many other historic and rare newly found sets and items will be
in the next version of the LEGO DVD download (free to current owners).

Here's some of the stuff that will added....

How was LEGO delivered to retailers in the early 1950s?

And much much more... :)

See Marketplace buy-sell-trade for details if you're interested in the current
DVD/download (only takes 6 minutes to download all 688MB of data)... plus the
Lugnet listed sale specials still apply... and anyone who already has the
DVD/download... the future editions (going way past 3000 pages)... will be free!

Cheers,
Gary Istok

P.S.  Here's one last one... a circa 1952-53 Danish Retailer Wooden box set,
that the LEGO Archives are still trying to identify! :)
