I just got the Spring 2006 S@H catalog and thought I noticed that some of the
sets in it are not photographs of the models, but in fact computer-generated
renders. Is this my imagination? I think it is particularly noticeable in
sets like 7893 Passenger Plane and 7891 Airport Fire Truck (p. 9).
Has this been going on for years and I just havent noticed, is it a new
thing, or are these just particularly well-lit and edited photographs?

Ive noticed this as well, in growing frequency on packaging as well as the
catalogs. Like Disney, I think TLC has decided to forgo traditional artistic
venues and concentrate their efforts in the CGI realm.
During a PennLUG group trip to Toys R Us, we noticed the CG renders on one of
the small vehicle kits. We thought based on the picture, that there would be
clear (trans-white) rounded slopes used for the windshield, when it was actually
a smoke (trans-black) rounded slope, just rendered poorly. (Thanks to Mike for
spending the 4 dollars to verify our suspicions!)
