It might be the scotch talking, so I'll keep this short. I just got the S@H
January 2006 catalog and upon first examination I'm really underwhelmed.
Exo-Force just looks terrible. Every robot sports the exact same design.
There's no variation at all between the mechs. Some of these sets (Gate
Assault and Sonic Phantom) should be labelled Bionicle Light. Where did the
bricks and plates go?! It feels like the System has the Bionicle flu and
there's no vaccine!
The same could be said for the Vikings line. Sure, the 'figs are nice and
the Fortress is loaded with new brown log walls, but the dragons look more
like rainforest insects with all the Bionicle parts. Bleah!
The new City Rescue sets are just as uninspiring but in a different way.
The Hospital looks in dire need of some serious care. Forget about
admitting patients, get the contruction workers back here and finish this
thing!
So far, the only sets that actually look like Lego are the Ferrari sets,
especially the new Spider (#8671). Now THAT'S a Lego set!! It rocks just
standing still and you can tell just by a quick glance that it's crammed
full of useful parts, not pre-fab, one-use Bionicle nonsense.
It's a hard time to be an old-school fan these days. . .
