Anyone notice these new sets over at Brickset?

This looks amazing. More than once I’ve had discussions with both adult LEGO builders and parents of kids who build and more than once the words have been spoken, “kids today can’t even build their own house out of LEGO bricks.” Well, now they can! I think this is a fantastic idea and I really hope it sells well. I know I’ll be buying a few. :)

Note the older style blue tub on 3600. It is not shaped like a brick.

Works for me. :)

And 3598 & 3599 are round cardboard style tubes.

That is very retro packaging in some sense. Reminds me of the old tubes that wooden blocks and Lincoln Logs have been sold in over the years.

   Interesting stuff.

Very much so! Thanks for posting those links.

The Unofficial LEGO Builder’s Guide

Well I’m holding my breath.... if the only window parts are Peeron #4132 and #4133 (the 2x4x3 ages 3+ windows), then it will be disappointing. We’ll have to see... However, the title to the box is rather encouraging...

Also Lego sold parts in tubes happened twice in the distant past, in Switzerland and USA.

In Switzerland they had basic sets from 1957-65 (sets #700/0 thru #700/6) with these tubes with a tin top.

In the USA from 1962-65 Samsonite had an exclusive arrangement with Sear’s Department Store to sell basic sets #704, #706 and #710 in tubes as well. These however had a string to pull along the outside edge to open the tubes. Afterwards they never quite closed quite right, and most exist without a top.

Dave or Eric.... pictures?

(...) I am most excited by the concept itself. The idea that they've decided to explore this semi-theme is what I find so great. :) AB (19 years ago, 19-Oct-05, to lugnet.general, FTX)
