A while ago I mentioned that some early USA and Canada sets from 1961-62 were
probably never produced.  I think I can pretty much confirm it now.

The 1961-62 USA and Canada Samsonite Lego catalogs show some pretty impressive
sets:

Here is the website if the FTX doesn't work:

The problem lies with the sets in the upper left of the catalog picture.  This
version of the #717 Junior Constructor, #725 Town Plan and #246 Town Plan board
were apparently never produced.  I checked with the folks in Billund, and they
do not have any of these in the Vault.  Nor do they have any information on
these sets in the Lego collections group.  Note: the #725 Town Plan box and #246
Town Plan board are identical to the #810 continental European Town Plan set and
#200 continental European Town Plan board, but with different numbers.  This
#717 set with a gable house model has never been seen anywhere in any version.

Another twist to this anomaly is that of the 3 basic sets in the lower left of
the picture, only the smallest, the #705 has ever been seen (I was one of a
small group of AFOLs that got an MISB version from a US seller recently).  The
#708 below it (picture mostly hidden, but it has been verified to be a harbor
scene) has also never been seen.  And the #711 set at the bottom of the picture
(with the long necklace of bricks) has never been seen (all #711 sets have a
picture that goes to the bottom of the box with a short necklace of bricks).
All the small sets on the right side of the catalog picture WERE produced
however.

So I find it amazing that a Lego catalog was produced (this catalog was in all
Samsonite Lego sets from 1961-62) where nearly everything that was in it was
never produced!

(...) Ooops! I forgot to show what was probably produced in 1961-62. To do that, one has to look at the 1963 catalog (all these set versions with the same set numbers were actually first produced in 1961, with the exception of the tall box version (...) (19 years ago, 12-Jun-05, to lugnet.general)
