Most collectors are not aware of this road plate (on EBAY, two are shown):

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5933097005

It was the first ever ABS Lego road plate, and was produced from 1970-72, only
for the USA Samsonite Lego market.

It is of the old 50x50 stud size (like the gray plates of the era).

It is known as #078, and there are no lane markings on it.

I bid on this (and lost) because it was worth way more than the $20 that it was
at when I bid.  Since I already have 2 of these, I didn't mind losing it so
much.

I noticed that there is no picture in the lugnet database for entry #078.

In mint condition, I could see this going for $100.

This road plate is also apparently contained in the Samsonite Model Maker Set
367.
