Maybe I will offer it only to those folks who buy my Lego History/Price List
Another service I was thinking about offering was what I call the LEGO
equivalent of "Hamburger Helper" (a USA/Canada food product that requires only
hamburger beef be added to make a full meal).  I would sell partial old sets
(parts only, from my own rare parts inventory), but only the rare items that
people cannot find on Bricklink (or cannot find in decent quantities).

Examples:  the old Model Builder sets of the mid 70's.  I have the rare parts
for building #396 Thatcher Perkins, #390 1913 Cadillac, #391 1926 Renault, and
#395 1909 Rolls Royce.  I have the large (red and white) and small (red) spoked
wheels, black axle bricks, rod/piston train works, 1x1x1 yellow classic windows,
2x2 outside corner blue slopes, etc.  I probably have rare spare parts for about
40 (total) of these sets.
Most pieces would be near mint to mint.

I think this is an excellent idea, but for every person who needs all the rare
parts surely there are more who, like me, have the set but have lost only one or
two of those parts.  I have been looking on and off for several years for the
black old style wheel for my Thatcher Perkins and they never come up on
Bricklink.  Would you be able to offer a pick an mix or would it have to be all
the rare parts?

Thanks for the response Simon.

Yeah, this probably doesn't belong in lugnet.trains, but Simon's question is
about a train locomotive (yeah I know it's a model, not a working train).  But
his question is about, you guessed it.... black train wheels!  But anyway
followups will go just to lugnet.general. :-)

Simon I hear you.  I guess I can add such individual parts such as black and red
train wheels, large spoked wheels, full stud minifig heads, etc. There will be
one item that I probably won't be selling individually.  That would be the 6
piece #1119 rod/piston service pack (peeron items x461a, x515 and x564).  I only
have complete sets of these, and wouldn't want to break them up.  But I do
notice that at least 1 BRICKLINK store has parts of this #1119 service pack
available.  Oops, I take it back, I have several sets of the #1119 without the
packaging. So I guess anything is possible.

Another item that I could possibly break up would be LONDON BUS sticker sheets.
I have one sheet (out of 20) that has one sticker missing. So I could probably
sell individual stickers from this sheet. (Note: I had the rare good fortune to
find 35 London Bus #760 sets at a clearance sale back in 1985 in Michigan, but
they have long since been broken apart and the boxes thrown out -ouch!).

Speaking of boxes, I also have dozens of empty Lego boxes from the 1980's with
inserts that may be available as well.  (10) 6075 Yellow Castle boxes among
them!

I was also thinking about adding some architectural items, such as a 35 piece
massive classic Lego 1x8x11 window for an office tower or train station
entrance.  It could be made of (12) 2x2 windows, (8) 1x2 windows, (9) 2x1
windows and (6) 1x1 windows. The windows would be assembled in a sort of an Art
Deco pattern in this fashion:

2x2 1x2 2x2 1x2 2x2
2x1 1x1 2x1 1x1 2x1
2x2 1x2 2x2 1x2 2x2
2x1 1x1 2x1 1x1 2x1
2x2 1x2 2x2 1x2 2x2
2x1 1x1 2x1 1x1 2x1
2x2 1x2 2x2 1x2 2x2

A pair of 1x5x4 arches could frame the top of this stately window.

A smaller (9 piece) version of this could be used to make Frank Lloyd Wright
style deco windows in a 5x5 size:

2x2 1x2 2x2
2x1 1x1 2x1
2x2 1x2 2x2

Or if there was a fantasy window that you wanted to make, I could provide the
window parts.

nice idea to make these rare parts available :) Now if someone would do it for all those hard-to-get space parts from the Golden Age of lego space... :) (20 years ago, 27-Aug-04, to lugnet.general)
