After seeing a note here on Lugnet and some pictures of a few bendt 1x16
Technic bricks from a ISD, I decided to take apart my Imperial Star
Destroyer (LEGO #10030) too, before any bricks was getting bendt. But I was
a little too late. I now have 8 bricks that is bendt, 4 of them is just
sligthly bendt and its hardly noticable. But the other 4 bricks is bendt
more, there is a gap of about 1-1.5mm when I lay them on a flat surface.
How can I strighten them out again? Do they have to be put in a bendt
possition in the opposite direction over some time to go back to their
normal shape? Or is it enough to attach them to other stright pieces and put
them aside for some time and they will "remember" their shape in time? I
know some type of plastic has "memory" so it will turn back to their orginal
shape when exposed to high temperature, is that an option?
There should have been a warning on the LEGO-box that the ISD came in that
long time display could damage some of the bricks. Or the model could be
strengthed for long time display. Its the 8 bricks in the middle far back in
the model that is getting all the tension and will get bendt over time
because of all the weigth of the model.
Mine has been on display for over a year. Bought it in 2002 and was setting
it for display 12.12.02. Today 06.03.04 I had to take it apart and sort all
the bricks...

| Is it all the 1x16's in the "frame" or are certain one's under more stress ? The reason I ask is that, I'm prototyping some simple technic beams in aluminium and steel to fix this and I wonder how many I'll need to make... -JSM (...) (21 years ago, 12-Mar-04, to lugnet.general)
