What is this piece?

You would think I would know where to post a message like this, but I went
all through the list of newsgroups and there's nowhere really obvious. So I
guess it goes here in .general.

This piece is a brown goblet-shaped object with 4 slots in the top edge of
the goblet, 2 bricks high. I don't even know if it's LEGO, but it fits on a
LEGO stud. Here's a pic:
