It seems like these things ought to be good for something other than
assembling one of the soccer sets.
The only thing I’ve been able to think of is that if you wanted to build some
sort of mounded hill or other landscaping feature you might somehow be able to
use the field sections inside.

Don’t know about the 8x16 base, but for the 8x8, how about a
lego-compatible base for
a webcam?
