An announcement was made by me at the 2003 BricksWest of the start of a LUG
based in San Diego, CA and to call it SANLUG. It's intent is to get
together with LEGO enthusiasts of any interest who live in San Diego.
A few years back, myself and some other LEGO train enthusiasts in Southern
California decided to get together and take the idea of a Southern
California LEGO Train Club and make it a reality. It was an opportunity that
could not be turned down.
It was a rather slow start but as the club got itself more organized,
attracted more LEGO train enthusiasts, and gained more visibility in the
region, it has no doubt become a recognized organization in Southern
California and the LEGO community. To just go to SCLTC's website and see
what they have done is the proof.
The fact that it has gained the recognition got me thinking of a more
localized LUG. LUGOLA has served the region well but covers a large area.
The fact LEGOLAND CA is located in San Diego county has long made me wonder
of the creation of a LUG based here holds potential. With the success SCLTC
has achieved in 2002, including a display in San Diego's model railroad
museum, and BricksWest holding its event in San Diego, the idea to pursue
SANLUG grew stronger and stronger. At the 2003 BricksWest, I decided that
would be the time to make the announcement. Rather than read a post, my
instincts told me if I really want this to fly it would be best done ''live
and in person''.
Some points I would like to clarify: I made the decision to leave the SCLTC
at the end of 2002 for reasons but am not alienating myself from them
completely. They are great friends of mine and each plays an important role
in making the club what it has become. The friendships created are ones I
want to continue. The same can be said of all the great people in LUGOLA.
I'm just seeing new opportunities that I thought I just wouldn't get and the
SANLUG is one of them; I just don't want to miss out on it.
To any of the interested out there, just send me a message...
