Hey all,
I must confess I felt a certain level of discomfort over the ads and later
content of this new show Lego has developed. It just didn't sound like
Lego! However, I saw most of the figures in the action figure section (NOT
with the rest of the Lego sets) at my local TRU and was immediately
intrigued. All the figures use the click-joint articulation system that I
first noticed in the Ogel Shark Sub. The molding and painting are
excellent. A "softer" plastic is used to give the joints some leeway, but
they are still quite firm.
I remember noticing the robot, Jens, in the ads since I saw the possibility
of arm and leg segments that could be usable for space-themed creations.
The figure stands about 9" tall and has superb articulation. It comes with
a regular set of arms and legs, one extra tool arm (some kind of blowtorch),
and two smaller unarticulated arms. The little orange eyepiece and antennae
on the head can be moved using the small grey dials on either side of the
head. The hands rotate in addition to the elbows, so the figure has quite a
wide range of poses making it an excellent candidate for animation. I
bought two because the arms and legs can each be separated into two pieces,
so you have many combinations of parts with which to experiment.
I also picked up the green and black creature Euripedes. This troll-like
figure comes with a large trans-red and gold staff and removable chest armor
(which just hangs on the figure, it doesn't attach anywhere). He was the
perfect candidate to menace the large castle I've been working on! His legs
are not articulated at the knees (hmmf!) but he does have two extra
attachment points on the top of his head and his behind. You could give him
a big black dinosaur tail if you wanted!
Of special note, the feet on both figures do fit on lego plates, although
the fit is very loose.
I was also eyeing the red beast figure whose name I can't recall now, but
decided to limit my spending somewhat. Well, I like these figures, and can
see myself picking up a few more if they all have the potential apparent in
the ones I bought. Check 'em out!
Dave
